A bacteria causes Chlamydia. Chlamydia can spoil a woman's reproductive organs. One can get this infection by vaginal, anal, or oral sexual relations. Chlamydia is often identified as a "silent" infection because many infected women and men may have almost no signs or symptoms.
Symptoms in women include abnormal vaginal discharge or a burning sensation when urinating. These symptoms usually become visible within 1 to 3 weeks after exposure to infection. Chlamydia infection travels from the cervix to the fallopian tubes.

Treatment of Chlamydia:
- Doxycycline 100 mg 2-3 times a day for 10-14 days, or
- Zithromax® (azithromycin) 1.0 gm a single dose, or
- Zithromax® Z-pak® (azithromycin) - 500mg on day 1, followed by 1 tab (250mg) once a day for 4 more days
To avoid re-infection, any sexual partners should be treated too. It's important not to have unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex until treatment is completed & the infection has cleared up. Once it has been successfully treated, it won't come back unless a new infection is picked up.
