Some STDs can be very serious and leave a lasting impression for life. So stay smart, stay safe - and if you have any of these symptoms see a doctor!
Some STDs are fairly easy to spot, although symptoms do vary depending on the specific disease. Next time you get undressed or take a shower, have a good look round to see if you have any of the following:
* sores, blisters, rashes or growths on the penis or in the genital area
* unusual discharge from the penis
* unusual discharge from the anus
* itching, soreness or swelling in or around the penis or anus
* pain, discomfort or tenderness in the genital area
* pain or discomfort during bowel movements
* pain when urinating
* sores, white patches, persistent soreness or swelling in the mouth or throat
* pains in the abdomen or pelvic area
If you have, you really should swallow your embarrassment and seek medical advice from your GP or local GUM (genitourinary medicine clinic).
