Gastro-intestinale aandoeningen kunnen betrekken symptomen zoals buikpijn, opgeblazen gevoel, winderigheid, reflux, diarree en / of obstipatie. FODMAPs zijn een groep van korte keten koolhydraten die slecht worden geabsorbeerd. Zij zijn dus vergist door darmbacteriën het vrijgeven van gas en die leiden tot deze symptomen. U heeft geadviseerd om te voorkomen dat de volgende FODMAPs voor een periode van ten minste 8 weken na die tijd uw diëtist zal u adviseren of voor een van de groepen FODMAP uitdaging.

Wat Foods moet worden beperkt?

1. Voedingsmiddelen met een overmaat FRUCTOSEGEHALTE

3. Foods met sorbitol

FODMAPs as Treatment of Abdominal Pain, Gas, Diarrhea


Symptoms of Gastrointestinal disorder include abdominal pain, bloating, wind, reflux, diarrhoea and/or constipation. FODMAPs are a collection of small chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbable in the body.

Fermentation of FODMAPs in the distal small and proximal large intestine stimulates such conditions in the bowel that lead to releasing gas, boost intestinal permeability, an inclination factor to growth of Crohn's disease.

FODMAPs are a group of poorly absorbed short-chain carbohydrates in the diet because of their osmotic consequences (diffusion of molecules through a semi-permeable membrane until both sides balanced), increase fecal output following colectomy and ileal pouch formation or ileorectal anastomosis (IRA).

Avoid the following FODMAPs for a period of at least 8 weeks. After 8 weeks your dietitian will give advice whether to start any of the FODMAP groups.

Analysis of Soluble Fiber Supplements

The abdominal spasms including bowel dysfunction of IBS can be prevented by consuming soluble fiber as well as soluble fiber supplements.

Function of soluble fibers is to absorb liquids in the digestive tract by converting them into mucus like lubricant which helps in relieving abdominal cramps and prevents both diarrhea and constipation. Soluble fiber supplements have been found beneficial in IBS patients during a several clinical studies.

Usually soluble fiber supplements are sometimes wrongly advertised as laxatives (Stimulants for evacuation of feces), although they prevent or ease constipation by simply normalizing the bowel functions.

Soluble fibers obtained from both sources, foods and supplements, are equally good.

Soluble fiber supplements, acquired from both foods and supplements sources, have no harmful side effects if taken daily. Additionally as added benefits, they:-
  • Manage Irritating Bowel Syndrome.
  • Alleviate LDL, bad blood cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of heart disease
  • Minimize colon cancer risks
  • Improve glycemic control by diminishing the absorption speed of fats and carbohydrates into the bloodstream and forestalls the development of free radicals.
  • Lower insulin requirements.
These supplements are available as powders for prepared by mixing with water, or as chewable tablets or caplets that are swallowed with a glass of water.

The dosage for IBS, both by doctors and soluble fiber supplement manufacturers, and works best for preventing IBS symptom, is as follows:
  • According to USDA, the minimum recommended dosage for adults, other than soluble fiber, is 25 to 35 grams per day, and soluble fiber should account for one third to one half of this total amount. Some scientists actually recommend up to 60 grams of fiber a day, so the USDA recommendations are not maximum dosage limitations. The typical American eats only a meager 10-15 grams of fiber daily. For comparison, the average fiber intake in China is 33 grams of fiber a day, and it ranges as high as 77 grams per day in some regions.
  • The USDA recommended minimum fiber intake for adults is 25 to 35 grams daily, and soluble fiber should account for one third to one half of this total amount. Some scientists actually recommend up to 60 grams of fiber a day, so the USDA recommendations are not maximum dosage limitations. The typical American eats only a meager 10-15 grams of fiber daily.   • For powders shaped soluble fibers, initial dose is half or one level-teaspoon, twice a day. Later during the next one two, three or four weeks this quantity can be increased to 2-4 tablespoons, twice a day. This amount roughly equals to 12-25 grams of soluble fiber supplement per day.
  • Before starting any supplement, please read minimum and maximum dosages given by the manufacturer on label of the product.
  • Please also check the label for sorbitol. This is an artificial sweetener and may cause cramps, bloating, diarrhea, and gas in people who do not even have IBS.
  • As with the fiber powders, the goal with the fiber pills is to just keep gradually increasing your dose until you stabilize, and then continue the same dosage.
  • Please note that different manufacturers may have different maximum dosages on their labels. Check with the individual product minimum and maximum dosage they recommend. The grams of soluble fiber per teaspoon/tablespoon/pill dose of the different supplements may vary.
  • If you have any problem with a single dosage, then divide your doses throughout the day according to your need and choice. It is always better to keep your gut constantly filled up with soluble fiber, so several smaller doses are often much more helpful than a single large daily dose.

Dosages and fiber content for common soluble fiber supplements:
  • Heather's Tummy Fiber™ Acacia Senegal provides 6 grams of organic, prebiotic soluble fiber per level tablespoon dose.
  • Benefiber powder provides 1.5 grams of soluble fiber per teaspoon (please note that Benefiber has changed as of July 2006.)
  • One tablespoon of Metamucil smooth texture orange and original texture orange (these are not the sugar-free varieties) contains 2 grams of soluble fiber and 1 gram of insoluble fiber.
  • One tablespoon of Citrucel provides 2 grams of soluble fiber. (Please note there is a recall of Citrucel for the summer of 2006).
  • Two Metamucil wafers provide 2 grams soluble fiber and 1 gram insoluble fiber.

Oestrogeen Mood Swings Vrouwen



Op een reis door de onbekende zeeën van de perimenopauze en menopauze veel vrouwen tegenkomen ruwe zeilen. Dagen misschien gevuld met de deining en dalen van depressie, tranen, stemmingswisselingen, irrationele woede-uitbarstingen, lethargie, en vermoeidheid. Nachten vindt u in beroering met aangrijpende angst-en paniekaanvallen, samen met soaken nachtzweten. Voeg daarbij de onverklaarde gewichtstoename en een laag libido en je weet dat er iets ernstig mis.

Uw stemmingen en lichaam kan volledig lijkt uit de hand. Wat gebeurt er?
De emotionele achtbaan die premenstrueel syndroom (PMS), perimenopauze en na de menopauze is gevoegd diepste verbonden met de stroom van twee krachtige hormonen, oestrogeen en progesteron. De natuur heeft ontworpen oestrogeen en progesteron worden partners in een delicate evenwichtsoefening. Als dat evenwicht wankelt in ofwel een of de andere richting, een hele reeks van gezondheidsproblemen ontstaan.

Dit onevenwicht kan leiden tot depressie, stemmingswisselingen, angst, prikkelbaarheid, boosheid, slapeloosheid, vermoeidheid, gewichtstoename, opgeblazen gevoel, mentale mistheid, laag libido en pijnlijke borsten.

Oestrogeen teveel speelt een grote rol in het creëren van PMS symptomen. Progesteron is de dominante hormoon de twee weken vóór de menstruatie. Het wordt geproduceerd in hoeveelheden van meer dan 200 keer oestrogeen op dat moment. Door de vele spanningen, gebrekkige voeding en het eten indiscreties die zo gebruikelijk zijn in de westerse leven kan oestrogeenspiegels ver overschrijden progesteron niveaus. De ellende van PMS, met inbegrip van de emotionele rit, zijn het resultaat van deze omgekeerde hormoon productie. Verre van tekortkoming in oestrogeen, is de moderne vrouw de menopauze meer kans op een hoog niveau van oestrogeen en progesteron lage niveaus van ervaring, het creëren van die al te bekend oestrogeen-dominant profiel. In feite heeft de World Health Organization gemeld dat een postmenopauzale vrouw met overgewicht heeft meer oestrogeen circuleert door haar lichaam dan een magere pre menopauze vrouw.

De prevalentie van oestrogeen dominantie kan worden bevestigd. In plaats van oestrogeen-deficiëntie, moderne vrouwen echt lijden aan progesteron deficiëntie.
Zelfs de perimenopauze, een vijf tot tien jaar durende reis van hormonale aanpassingen vorige menopauze, wordt nu erkend als een tijd waarin het lichaam maakt echt een hoog niveau van oestrogeen, samen met een lage progesteron productie als gevolg van onregelmatige ovulaties. Helaas is de heersende overtuiging verkeerde dat deze fase van het leven van een vrouw wordt vergezeld door de afname van oestrogeen niveaus resulteert in een foute diagnose en mishandeling met 'de pil' of hormonale substitutietherapie (HST), verhoging van giftige oestrogeenspiegels zelfs nog verder.

Volgens Dr Jerilynn Prior, onderzoeker en professor Endocrinologie van de Universiteit van British Columbia, Vancouver, de verschillende symptomen van de perimenopauze zijn te wijten aan een overmaat van oestrogeen, en niet een tekortkoming. Het is een tijd waarin de eierstokken doen hun grote finale! Dr Voorafgaande's onderzoek heeft ook ontdekt dat zo veel als 50% van de jonge vrouwen in hun 20's geen eisprong elke maand (hoewel ze blijven menstrueren) die leidt tot maand lang met tussenpozen van oestrogeen dominantie die PMS stemmingswisselingen en andere symptomen verergert.

Wanneer de steroïd-hormoon drugs worden gebruikt, hetzij in de vorm of de pil of HST voor PMS, perimenopauze of menopauze, kan oestrogeen niveaus worden verhoogd met maar liefst 100 keer meer dan normaal dat het lichaam zou maken. Voor veel vrouwen depressie, woede flare-ups, angst, paniekaanvallen, slapeloosheid, lusteloosheid en onvoorspelbare stemmingswisselingen. De pil en HST ook beroven het lichaam van essentiële voedingsstoffen zoals B-vitaminen, vitamine E en C, foliumzuur, magnesium, selenium en zink die verder bestaat uit fysieke en emotionele gezondheid.

Daarnaast oestrogeen blokkeert de afgifte van hormonen uit de schildklier, bij te dragen aan een trage schildklier aandoening die bekend staat als "hypothyreoïdie." Symptomen van hypothyreoïdie met depressie, postpartum depressie, stemmingswisselingen, lethargie, mentale mistheid, gewichtstoename en onregelmatige menstruatie. Oestrogeen kan ook het activeren van de bijnieren om de stress hormoon cortisol produceren, wat leidt tot diverse schadelijke effecten, met inbegrip van hersenen veroudering en botverlies. Buitensporige eisen die aan de bijnieren zal leiden tot uitputting bijnieren veroorzaken angst, paniekaanvallen, depressies of snelle stemmingswisselingen, mentale traagheid, het gevoel geestelijk en lichamelijk overbelast, huilen aanvallen, slapeloosheid, nachtelijk zweten en algemene vermoeidheid.

Het vermogen van een vrouw te voelen en uiten haar diepe emotionele leven is een van de grootste geschenken van een vrouw. Echter, hormoonbalans is een delicate aangelegenheid en is gemakkelijk weggegooid. Werken lange uren, krijgen te weinig slaap, de dagelijkse stress, een dieet met te veel suiker, andere geraffineerde koolhydraten, cafeïne, alcohol en gehydrogeneerde oliën, overslaan van maaltijden zullen alle leiden tot oestrogeen dominantie en het domino-effect op het gehele endocriene systeem. Wat emotionele onevenwichtigheid een vrouw kan worden ervaren, is het een krachtig signaal aan de onderliggende onbalans te pakken. Hoewel stemmingswisselingen, van welke ras vele oorzaken hebben, de hormonale balans is altijd een belangrijk onderdeel. Het is belangrijk om te werken met een bevoegde beroepsbeoefenaar holistische te ontdekken en te corrigeren van de onderliggende gezondheidsproblemen achter de emotionele onevenwichtigheid. Populaire drug therapieën zoals Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft en kleine kalmerend zal alleen het verlichten van de symptomen, niet de oorzaken, en hebben vaak ernstige bijwerkingen die stemmingswisselingen, depressie, angst, slapeloosheid, hypertensie (hoge bloeddruk) en seksuele disfunctie behoren !

Relationship between Estrogen and Moods Swings in Women

On a journey through the uncharted seas of perimenopause and menopause many women encounter rough sailing. Days maybe filled with the swells and troughs of depression, tears, mood swings, irrational angry outbursts, lethargy, and fatigue. Nights may find you in turmoil with gripping anxiety and panic attacks along with soaking night sweats. Add to this, the unexplained weight gain and low libido and you know something is seriously awry.
Your moods and body may seem totally out of control. What is happening ?
The emotional roller coaster that accompanies premenstrual syndrome (PMS), perimenopause and post menopause is most profoundly connected to the flow of two powerful hormones, estrogen and progesterone. Nature has designed estrogen and progesterone to be partners in a delicate balancing act. When that balance teeters in either one direction or the other, a whole host of health problems ensue.
Our modern lifestyle with its stressful demands, irregular eating habits, junk food cuisine, frequent use of pharmaceutical drugs, and environmental toxic exposure has shifted the hormonal balance way over to the estrogen excess side. When estrogen is out of balance with progesterone, a condition called estrogen dominance occurs. This imbalance can cause depression, mood swings, anxiety, irritability, anger, insomnia, fatigue, weight gain, bloating, mental fogginess, low libido and sore breasts.
Estrogen excess plays a huge role in creating PMS symptoms. Progesterone is the dominant hormone the two weeks before menstruation. It is produced in amounts 200 times greater than estrogen at that time. Due to the many stresses, nutritional deficiencies and eating indiscretions that are so common in Western living, estrogen levels can far exceed progesterone levels. The woes of PMS, including the emotional ride, are the result of this topsy-turvy hormone production. Far from deficiency in estrogen, the modern menopausal woman is more likely to experience high levels of estrogen and low levels of progesterone, creating that all too familiar estrogen-dominant profile. In fact, the World Health Organization has reported that an overweight postmenopausal woman has more estrogen circulating through her body than a skinny pre menopausal woman.
The prevalence of estrogen dominance can be confirmed. Instead of estrogen deficiency, modern women are really suffering from progesterone deficiency.
Even perimenopause, a five to ten year journey of hormonal adjustments preceding menopause, is now recognized as a time when the body is making really high levels of estrogen along with low progesterone output due to irregular ovulations. Unfortunately the prevailing erroneous belief that this stage of a woman’s life is accompanied by declining estrogen levels results in misdiagnosis and mistreatment with ‘The Pill’ or hormone replacement therapy (HRT), increasing toxic estrogen levels even further.
According to Dr. Jerilynn Prior, researcher and Professor of Endocrinology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, the various symptoms of perimenopause are due to an excess of estrogen, not a deficiency. It’s a time when the ovaries are doing their grand finale! Dr. Prior’s research has also discovered that as many as 50% of young women in their 20’s are not ovulating every month (although they continue to menstruate) leading to month-long intervals of estrogen dominance which worsens PMS mood swings and other symptoms.
When the steroid-hormone drugs are used, either in the form or The Pill or HRT for PMS, perimenopause or menopause, estrogen levels may be raised by as much as 100 times more than those that the body would normally be making. For many women depression, anger flare-ups, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, lethargy and unpredictable mood swings. The Pill and HRT also rob the body of vital nutrients including B-vitamins, vitamins E and C, folic acid, magnesium, selenium and zinc which further comprises physical and emotional health.
In addition, estrogen blocks the release of hormones from the thyroid gland, contributing to a sluggish thyroid condition known as “hypothyroidism.” Symptoms of hypothyroidism include depression, postpartum depression, mood swings, lethargy, mental fogginess, weight gain and menstrual irregularities. Estrogen can also activate the adrenals to produce the stress hormone, cortisol, leading to various harmful effects, including brain aging and bone loss. Excessive demands placed on the adrenals will lead to adrenal exhaustion causing anxiety, panic attacks, depression or rapid mood swings, mental sluggishness, feeling mentally and physically over-stressed, crying bouts, insomnia, night sweats and generalized fatigue.
A woman’s ability to feel and express her deep emotional life is one of the greatest gifts of being a woman. However, hormone balance is a delicate matter and is easily thrown out. Working long hours, getting too little sleep, daily stresses, a diet containing too much sugar, other refined carbohydrates, caffeine, alcohol and hydrogenated oils, skipping meals will all lead to estrogen dominance and its domino effect on the entire endocrine system. Whatever emotional imbalance a woman may be experiencing, it is a powerful signal to address the underlying imbalance. Although mood swings of whatever variety have many causes, hormonal imbalance is always a key component. It is important to work with a competent holistic practitioner to discover and correct the underlying health problems behind the emotional imbalance. Popular drug therapies such as Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft and minor tranquilizer will only alleviate the symptoms, never the causes, and often have serious side-effects which include mood swings, depression, anxiety, insomnia, hypertension (high blood pressure) and sexual dysfunction!
During this time it is best to give the liver extra support by adding therapeutic doses of liquid extracts of herbs and amino acids. Add healthy portions of liver-friendly foods such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, carrots, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, pumpkin and kale, while reducing liver-toxic foods such as sugar, refined carbohydrates, caffeine, alcohol, preservatives and trans-fatty acids from margarine and fried foods.
As I am committed to a herbal and nutritional program, I also included more hormone-balancing foods . Regular exercise, meditation and quality personal time are given prominence in my stress reduction program.
